Investigation of the Luminescence Emitted by Pulse-irradiated D2o Ice

چکیده

P u r i f i e d D20 i c e w a s i r r a d i a t e d w i t h p u l s e s o f 0.53 MeV e l e c t r o n s a n d t h e s p e c t r a l d i s t r i b u t i o n s o f t h e l u m i n e s c e n c e i n t e n s i t y a n d h a l f l i f e w e r e r e c o r d e d b e t w e e n 200 a n d 800 nm. E m i s s i o n p e a k s w e r e o b s e r v e d a t 390 a n d 540 nm a n d i t w a s s h o w n t h a t n o n e o f t h e s e e m i s s i o n s w a s c a u s e d by l u m i n e s c e n t i m p u r i t i e s . The e m i s s i o n f r o m D20 i c e w a s m o r e i n t e n s e t h a n f r o m H20 i c e a t a l l w a v e l e n g t h s a b o v e 370 nm. T h e h a l f l i v e s o f t h e l u m i n e s c e c e d e c a y i n D20 i c e v a r i e d f r o m 170 n s a t 390 nm t o 60 n s a t 540 nm a n d w e r e l o n g e r t h a n t h e c o r r e s p o n d i n g v a l u e s o f c a . 140 n s a n d 25 n s f o r H20 i c e .
